Valentine’s Day Postponed As Condom Shortage Hits Nigeria
UNAIDS with the support of the Nigerian Government have postponed this year’s Valentine’s Day celebrations due to shortage of condoms in the country.
Speaking to ondamic.com, the Executive Director of UNAIDS Mr. Michel Sidibe said there are currently no condoms in Nigeria and this could help spread HIV/AIDS during the celebrations. “As I talk to you now there are no condoms in Nigeria. You don’t get them at any shop. All what we have been giving out are all finished” Mr. Michel Sidibe said. According to The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), the government has given out about 200 million of free condoms since 2016.
The use of condoms in Nigeria is expected to rise in the coming months. “This year is less than 2 months old. It’s very young but over 200 million condoms have been used in Nigeria.
We didn’t expect this so we were late in shipping in new ones. We currently have 50 of the 40-footer containers on sea” The PRO of NACA told Ondamic.com. The new
